Emerson's Redbird *PATTERN ONLY* 12.5" x 16" Hooked Rug Pattern-Oval

Product Description

This is an oval version of our design inspired by the Northern Cardinal, a non-migrating bird I am often delighted to see out my kitchen window here in Maine, popping red against the white of the snow in winter. This pattern may be interpreted in a number of ways, hooked with berries and snow, or just plain as drawn.

This oval version was requested by a hooker who wanted to add braid rug edging as a surround for it.

Available on the backing of your choice -linen, rug warp or monks cloth - with serged edges. Our patterns are always drawn on the grain with at least 4" additional to fit on to your frame.

Ralph Waldo Emerson mentions the "redbird" in his poem, "Thine Eyes Still Shined."

"THINE 1 eyes still shined for me, though far
I lonely roved the land or sea:
As I behold yon evening star,
Which yet beholds not me.

This morn I climbed the misty hill
And roamed the pastures through;
How danced thy form before my path
Amidst the deep-eyed dew!

When the redbird spread his sable wing,
And showed his side of flame;
When the rosebud ripened to the rose,
In both I read thy name."

If you would like this pattern reversed for needle punch, let us know and we will be happy to do so.
